The Valencia CF coach gave a press conference on Wednesday before the 2nd leg against Celtic
One day removed from the UEFA Europa League meeting with Celtic at Mestalla, Valencia CF coach Marcelino previewed the game in his Wednesday press conference.
The approach to the second leg
Relaxation is always a bad idea. The team’s mentality has to that of winning, regardless of the previous result. The utmost effort and concentration is the way to achieve a good result, which is what we want, and to get into the next round.
Possible rotations
Every game is important. We can’t relax or think that all of our work is done. We will decide on the starting lineup on Thursday, taking into account the recent games and the match coming up on Sunday, but we’ll be giving priority to the closest game. We have a big advantage, but we have to make good on it and get into the next round. Everybody in the squad for the game has a chance of participating.
The supporters
There was a great atmosphere in Glasgow, which we are used to. We can only thank the fans for the way they’ve been with us all season. I’m sure that there will be a fantastic atmosphere. Of course, the kick-off time is less comfortable, but it’s something that happens in this competition. Both we and the fans want to be in the Europa League, and I’m sure that the fans are going to support us. We can’t ask for much more in terms of effort, intensity, chances and dominance over the opposition than we saw in the previous game, and we’ll try and transfer that into goals to please the fans.
A change in playing style for Celtic
Celtic are a team with a very clear way of playing. If they couldn’t make it effective in the firt leg, then that was down to the organisation and efforts of Valencia CF. The moments in which we scored had a big impact on the game. We expected Celtic to be dangerous and tough away from home, and if they didn’t manage that then it was thanks to the Valencia CF players. A few details might change, but we know their coach and we don’t think that any big overhaul will be made in terms of their approach to the game.
